hectorはギリシア神話の「ヘクトル」に由来する表現。この人物は「から威張りする人物として描かれたことから」，そこから転じて動詞で「〈人を〉どなりつける，いじめる」という意味があります（『新英和中辞典』研究社）。今回も「ピアノを諦めるようにきつく言う（どなる）」と解釈できます。（Koyamamoto）
