John Galliano set for TV interview?

Former Dior designer John Galliano is reportedly hoping for a tell-all TV interview with a prominent US talk show.

Another week, another Galliano rumour. This time it is reported that the former Dior designer is angling for a tell-all TV interview with Charlie Rose, the famed US presenter who has previously interviewed Tom Ford, Marc Jacobs and numerous high-profile actors and politicians.

angleが気になりました。このangleは「（（略式））｛・・・を｝欲しいとほのめかす、（小細工して）得ようとする｛for｝」（『ジーニアス英和辞典　第３版』大修館）という意味を持ちます。ODOで調べてみると’ seek something desired by indirectly prompting someone to offer it’と定義されており、さらにLDOCEを当たってみると’ to try to get something you want without asking directly for it’と記載されていました。意訳になっていまいますが、ここでは「テレビに出演したい」と訳出できると思います。

あくまでも噂なので実際のところ判然としませんが、デザインに興味がある者としては是非とも聴きたいところです。(Shou-VR*)
