さて、先ほどの記事(take a smattering of sth - 田邉祐司ゼミ 常時英心：言葉の森から)の続きです。さらに気になるのがfairy dustという表現。ここでは、どんな粉なのか考えてみましょう。

このfairy dustは、『ピーターパン』が好きな方ならご存知の表現で、日本語では「魔法の粉」と訳されます。初出はもちろん『ピーターパンとウェンディ』(Peter and Wendy)です。どんな効果かと言えば、“Of course Peter had been trifling with them, for no one can fly unless the fairy dust has been blown on him”(p. 100)から分かる通り、「魔法の粉」を振りかけると空を飛ぶことができるのです。

ここでは、Googleの技術という「魔法の粉」をふりかけるわけですから、RSCがGoogle +というSNSの世界に羽ばたくことができるということでしょう。

この箇所が面白く書かれているのが、本文のMeanwhile, scattering a bit of Californian largesse and what it calls "fairy dust" on the RSC is all to the good.という箇所です。グーグルはカリフォルニアの会社で、Californian largesseはその「カルフォルニア州の会社グーグルによる援助」ということです。ちなみに、グーグルの「魔法の粉」によってできた作品がこちら→Midsummer Night's Dreaming trailer - video | Stage | The Guardian

おな、以前ブログでも『ピーターパン』は『ケンジントン公園のピーターパン』ですが、扱われています。児童文学なのに、結構凝った表現が多かった気がします。
