dwarf starを取り上げます。dwarfと聞くと、童話などに登場する「小びと」やその動詞形「〜を矮小化する」を連想するのですが、ここでも同じく小さいというニュアンスを持ち、dwarfとstarで、天文用語で「矮星」という意味になります。尚、ODOでもチェックしてみたところ、‘a star of relatively small size and low luminosity, including the majority of main sequence stars.’と記載されていたので、このニュアンスも外さずにおさえておこうと思います。
