tongue-in-cheek #5

April Foolのprankが世界各地で仕掛けられましたね。記事はそのひとつ、ただしこちらの方は地球全体を対象にしたスケールの大きなものでした。

tongue-in-cheek（「おふざけ」、「からかい半分の」、 「おちょくって」）は本ブログでもおなじみの表現。文字通りとらえると、面白いイメージが浮かぶ表現で、April Foolにはぴったりです。ただし、この記事ではありませんが、「皮肉で」という意味で用いられるときがありますのでチェックをしておきましょう。（GP）

April Fools' joke: YouTube announces shutdown

As an early April Fools' joke, Internet giant Google announced on Sunday that popular video-sharing website YouTube would be shut down and all content deleted.

In a 3-minute video posted on YouTube's official blog, an employee said that starting at the stroke of midnight, the site would no longer accept posts.

Another employee explained that it was time to review the 150,000 clips uploaded since YouTube started in 2005, and choose a winner.



The video shows some notable YouTube celebrities judging the selection. It then says the world's best video will be announced when YouTube resumes operations 10 years from now in 2023.

Although clearly tongue-in-cheek, the prank video triggered a barrage of reactions from viewers. Some said in their posts that they could not live without YouTube.
