The Independentから英語表現を採り上げます。記事によるとQueenのヴォーカリスト故フレディ・マーキュリーがダイアナ妃をゲイ・クラブに連れて行ったことがあるようです。時期だけに、このようなニュースを読むと興味深く思えます。

さて、赤字のblankですが、こちらはイングランドの英語の略式で「無視をする」という意味で、LDOCEでは少し詳しく"to ignore someone who you would usually greet or speak to"と定義されています。「無視をする」というのは予想が出来ましたが、定義の後半（強調箇所）は予想できませんでした。このblankを使用することで、故ダイアナ妃が当時民衆にどれほど愛されていたのかがわかります。(Othello)
