throw the baby out with the bath waterですが直訳すると「お風呂の水と一緒に赤ちゃんを流す」ですが、「不要なものと一緒に大事な物を捨てる」（『ジーニアス英和辞典　第３版』大修館）といった意味になるようです。「木を見て森を見ず」とも言えそうです。

Allen氏は「ここで言う"baby"はドローンの強大な利益であり、"bath water"がプライバシーの問題である」＝「プライバシー問題に囚われて、ドローンの利益を見逃すな」と述べています。なお、この表現は過去にも扱われています。

今日はSpring Session一日目でした。ＵＧ先生、ご多忙の中ありがとうございます。
今日の先生のお話を聞いて一番に感じたのは、自分の英語に対する気持ちの曖昧さでした。なんのために英語を勉強しているのかということを、あまり深く考えず今まで過ごしてきました。「１年間で一生を送る」ためには常日頃「なんのために」を意識して学習を進めていくことが大事なのだなと感じました。本日のセッションを機会に一度自分を見つめ直そうと思います。
ゼミのみんなとも互いに助け合って協力していけたらと思います。ＵＧ先生、ゼミの皆さん、これからもよろしくお願いいたします。(Hatahata)
