今回取り上げる表現はbreathing spaceです。spaceといえば「空間」というイメージがありますが、今回は「時間」的な意味で使われています。breathing spaceは、Dictionary.comでは”Also called breathing spell. an opportunity to rest or think.”と定義されていました。breathing spaceは、breathing spellとも表現できるようです。つまりここでは「息つく暇、休息の余裕」という意味になり（Weblio辞書）、noを伴って、「息をつく暇もない」くらい緊迫した状況だったことがわかります。
