NYTにあった記事からの引用です。手持ちの辞書でsaltを調べても「〈食べ物に〉塩味をつける」「〈道路に〉塩をまく」「〈話講義などに〉（…で）活気を与える」「〈髪を〉しらが交じりにする」（『プログレッシブ英和中辞典』小学館）などの意味は見られるものの，今回のように「星」と共起するような意味は見当たりません。おそらくは「星が（まるで塩がふられているかのように）一面に輝く」という意味で使われていると推測できますが，saltにそのような使い方があるのですね。star-sprinkledやstar-studdedが同義では思い浮かびますが，star-saltedも脳内辞書に加えておきましょう。（Koyamamoto）
