今回取り上げたいのは、take a side trip toです。意味は文字通り「寄り道する」です（Weblio参照）。NYから来た女性は行方不明になる前、トルコであちこちをいろいろと旅をしていたのでしょうか。
昨年、日本人の女性が暴行を受け、絞殺されたという記憶もまだ新しいところなので、こちらも心配です。
