アメリカでは有名なドーナッツ屋さん、“Dunkin' Donuts”で窃盗事件が起きました。
そこでの表現方法から取り上げたいと思います。
A 26-year-old Morristown man allegedly stole wads of cash worth more than $2,000 on his first day at work at the Dunkin' Donuts on Lafayette Avenue.
もともとwadには「毛などを丸めた小さなかたまり、やわらかい詰め物」という意味がありますが
ここではofをつけることで「大量の、たくさんの」という意味になります(Webster参照)。
同じような表現方法で“ come into a fortune”というのがあります.
これは「財産や遺産を受け継ぐ、不意にお金が懐に入ってくる」という意味です。
他にも大金がかかるという意味でcost the earth, cost a bombなども押さえておきたいです（Sugar）
