今回取り上げる表現はalligator tearsです。Urban DictionaryにはTears that are fake, or are meant to deceive. Same as crocodile tears.とありました。つまり、｢嘘泣き｣や「空涙」という意味です。ここでは、「空涙を流すしかない」ということでしょうか。
さらに、crocodile tearsの定義でThe idea comes from the ancient belief that crocodiles weep while luring or devouring their prey.というものがありました。昔、ワニは獲物をおびき寄せたり、獲物を食べたりするときに泣くと言われていて、そこから「空涙」というような意味になったようです。
