オーストラリアのサウスウェールズで猛暑と強風による"壊滅的な火災"が危険視されているようです。

(CNN) -- Soaring temperatures and strong winds have combined to create a "catastrophic" fire threat across the southeast Australian state of New South Wales.

このtinderboxですが、昔は「火口（ほくち）箱」（『ジーニアス英和辞典　第３版』大修館）という意味で使われていましたが、それが転じて今では「一触即発の危険地域[情勢]」(ibid)という意味でも使われています。

ここでは少し違った意味で使われているようなのでWiktionaryを見てみると"(by extension) a place that is so dry and hot that there is danger of fire. "とあり、今回は「乾燥と猛暑によって火災が起きる危険がある場所」という意味になります。
