２０２０年の夏のオリンピックの招致を目指す東京の招致委員会は、スイスにある国際オリンピック委員会の本部(IOC)を訪れ、開催計画を示した立候補ファイルを提出しました。
１９６４年以来の２回目の東京でのオリンピックは実現するのでしょうか。

ニュースで何度も繰り返されていた、「招致」という言葉が英語で何というか気になったので、関連したニュースを調べてみました。
The Japan Timesのnewsによると、「招致」はbidと表わすようです。
また「立候補ファイル」もbid booksと表わされていたので、bidを調べてみますと「（名声などを得ようとする／〜しようとする）努力、企て」とあり、make a bid for the presidencyで「大統領のいすをねらう」という意味があるようです。（『ジーニアス英和大辞典』）
bid for〜は「〜に立候補する」という意味になるようなので（英辞朗 on the Web）、bid booksが「立候補ファイル」と表わされていたのにも納得しました。

東京は、マドリードやイスタンブールに比べると地元の支持率が、前回の招致活動と同様、大きく下回っているようですね。支持率をどう上げていくかが、東京の課題でしょうか。(Nat)

Madrid is bidding for a third consecutive time, Tokyo a second time in a row and Istanbul a fifth time overall.
The so-called "bid books" run to several hundred pages and represent the cities' master plan of venues, budgets, financial guarantees, security, accommodations, transportation and other key aspects of the multibillion-dollar projects.
