本日気になった表現はfileです。fileというと、私も日々使用している名詞、「（書類などの）とじ込み帳」（『ジーニアス英和辞典 第３版』大修館）がよく知られ、日本語でも「ファイル」とそのまま使っていますが、勿論この意味ではありません。文章中では、自動詞で「｛・・・の/・・・に｝申込み[申請]をする」（『ジーニアス英和辞典 第３版』大修館）という意味になります。以上のことを踏まえると、file for divorceで、離婚を申請する、と訳出できると思います。
