お正月休みを利用した出国ラッシュが今日から始まったようです。

New Year holiday exodus begins at airports

The New Year holiday exodus began at airports across Japan on Friday.
This year, many people are taking advantage of an extended nine-day break. The last day of business for most companies is Friday. Next week, Jan 1-3 are national holidays and many companies have given employees Friday Jan 4 off as well, adding up to a nine-day holiday.
Narita Airport said it expected 42,000 people to depart on Friday. Travel agent JTB said it had arranged overseas tours for 657,000 people throughout Japan, with Europe, the U.S. and Southeast Asia the most popular destinations.
The increase in budget carriers flying in and out of Japan has made Asian destinations especially attractive, JTB said.
The return rush is expected to peak between Jan 3 and Jan 6.

ここで取り上げるのはexodusです。exodusは「(多数の人が)出て行くこと、大移動」という意味ですが（『ジーニアス英和辞典　第４版』大修館）、ここでは多くの人がお正月休みを利用して日本を出て行くということから、日本語でいうと「出国ラッシュ」あたりがしっくりくると思います。最後の文にあるreturn rushは、逆に「入国ラッシュ」となりますね。

私は年末年始に旅行に行ったことがあまりないのですが、毎年ニュースで報道されているのを見て驚いています。やはり年末年始は、唯一家族がまとまった休みを取れる期間なので混むのでしょう。私はちょうどそのあたりが誕生日なので、いつか誕生日は海外で過ごしたいと思っています。（Haramii）
