Final touches put to gov't lineup, Kishida to be foreign minister

Japan's incoming prime minister, Shinzo Abe, on Tuesday put the final touches to the formation of his government, picking Fumio Kishida as foreign minister and Toshimitsu Motegi as industry minister supervising energy policy.
A day before taking office, Abe, president of the Liberal Democratic Party, agreed with New Komeito chief Natsuo Yamaguchi that the two parties will form a coalition government after a three-year hiatus, following the LDP's victory in the Dec. 16 House of Representatives election.
Abe also launched the LDP's new leadership team, retaining as vice president Masahiko Komura and as secretary general Shigeru Ishiba. With an eye on the House of Councillors election in the summer, Abe filled other senior posts with veteran but relatively young lawmakers within the party.
