赤字のmuch to the chagrin ofの部分です。chagrinは「(失敗による)無念、悔しさ」（『ジーニアス英和辞典 第４版』（大修館））です。これはto the disappointment of~などと同じ形で、ここではmuchがchagrinを強調しています。
さらにchagrinを詳しくLDOCEを見ると、"annoyance and disappointment because something has not happened the way you hoped"とあり、「望んだとおりに行かなかったことに対する」というのが前提にあるようです。多田野に続投して欲しかった日ハムファンの状況にはピッタリですね。
