Autumn stardust shrimp season starts in Suruga Bay
This year's autumn fishing season for stardust shrimp began on Monday in Suruga Bay, Shizuoka Prefecture. 84 fishing boats returned to Yui port in Shizuoka City overnight to unload the season's first catch of 15 tons of stardust shrimp. The volume was as large as usual. Small and transparent shrimps were put in a refrigerator kept at minus 3 degrees Celsius until an early morning auction. Officials at a local stardust shrimp cooperative say that prices and sales of the shrimp in Suruga Bay have been sluggish in recent years due to an increase in imports from Taiwan and other regions. The autumn fishing season will last until December 21st.
