急にがんばり出したEnDoughくんのfollow-upです。ブレーキとアクセルの踏み間違いによる事故，死角からの自転車との衝突，高速道路の逆走事故などなど，ドライバーの認知力の低下などに対処するためにクルマにはさまざまな予防安全措置がますます求められるようになっています。こういう安全対策が講じられたクルマをASV（Advanced Safety Vehicle）と呼ぶようですが，AVSの主眼がproactiveです。
proactiveと聞くとニキビのCMを思い出しますが，「積極的に促すさま。事前に対策を講じるさま。」を表す単語です。pro-が「前に，前へ」ですので，「事前に手を施す」，つまり「予防の措置を講じる」となるわけですね（反意語はreactive）。先生も今度はそんな装備が満載のクルマの購入を考えておられます。（Minnesota）

Nissan shows safety features, electronic steering

Electronically managed steering that completely bypasses the mechanical link of a clutch is among the new safety technology from Japanese automaker Nissan. Other vehicles are smart enough to park themselves. And some swerve automatically to avoid pedestrians.
  
Nissan Motor Co Executive Vice President Mitsuhiko Yamashita said the latest safety advancements are proactive, unlike air-bags and other “passive” features that are triggered by a crash.
  
Next-generation steering uses electronic signals to control tires, not a mechanical link. It’s set to be introduced in an Infiniti luxury model within a year, and would be a world first for a commercially produced car. In the auto industry, the technology is being touted as the biggest innovation in steering since the widespread adoption of power-assisted steering, which uses hydraulics to make turning the wheels easier.
