Noda taps Hosono as DPJ policy chief in bid to raise public support
Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda on Monday tapped up-and-coming nuclear minister Goshi Hosono as his Democratic
Party of Japan's policy chief in an attempt to restore flagging public support for his year-old government.
The premier also told reporters for the first time since his reelection as president of the ruling party last week, that he will revamp his Cabinet "to strengthen its function" after returning to Japan from New York on Thursday.
Hosono, who is relatively young at 41, has received extensive media exposure and achieved name recognition during his long struggle to deal with the emergency at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, crippled by the devastating March 2011 earthquake and tsunami.
