なでしこたちの最後の決戦が迫ってきました。Mainichiにはチームの支柱としてここまで後輩達を引っ張ってきた澤選手を取り上げた記事がありました。ただ、Olympics: Sawa ready for Olympic day of reckoning against U.S.という見出しにあるday of reckoningは気になりました。

もちろん「審判の日」という意味なんでしょうが、the day of reckoningには「罪の罰せられる時; 過ちを思い知る時」というニュアンスがあります。そういう宗教的なバックグラウンドはもはやこの言い回しにはないのでしょうか？？（UG）

Olympics: Sawa ready for Olympic day of reckoning against U.S.

LONDON (Kyodo) -- Veteran midfielder Homare Sawa has vowed to save her best for last as Japan brace themselves for a rematch of last year's World Cup final against the United States in the women's soccer gold medal match on Thursday at the London Games.

The reigning FIFA Women's World Player of the Year was the driving force behind Japan's stunning triumph in Germany last summer as Nadeshiko beat the U.S. 3-1 on penalties after a pulsating 2-2 draw, producing arguably the country's greatest ever sporting achievement.

Now the 33-year-old, who only recently returned to the national team after being sidelined with vertigo, is determined to go out with a bang in what is her fourth and probably last Olympics.
