were caught nappingは「不意をつかれた」という意味です（『ジーニアス英和辞典』第４版，大修館書店）。直訳をすれば「うたた寝をしているところを捉えられた」ですが，「不意」という訳語はピッタリきます。サッカーの文脈では，「集中を欠いていた」とも解釈できます。
