More to Europe than meets the eye for players moving abroad

近年欧州サッカーリーグに出て行く選手が多いですが，全員が成功するとは限りません。見出しはmore than meets the eye「見かけ以上のもの」という意味の表現を，There’s more to [in] 〜 than meets the eye＋for players moving abroadという形で使っているものです（『ジーニアス英和大辞典』大修館書店）。つまり、「海外志向の選手にとって欧州は楽ではない」という意味です。
欧州に行くのはいいですが，ロシア、ベルギー、クロアチアなどの各リーグで頑張っても、簡単には上手くいかないことがあります。練習方法や試合の仕方に関するカベ、言葉のカベ、文化・習慣のカベ、食事・健康管理の仕方の違い、などなどが海外組をおそいます。そんな状況を考えると，成長著しいJ Leagueに残る決断も評価してはどうでしょうか，という筆者の気持ちが伺えます。（Sugiuchi）

Several players have returned to the J. League from frustrating overseas experiences this winter, but until Japanese soccer begins to appreciate the diversity of the European game, more are likely to come unstuck in the future.
