10 disaster teams failed to take minutes

Ten government organizations involved in Great East Japan Earthquake response efforts, including two handling disaster countermeasures and headed by the prime minister, failed to take proper minutes of their meetings, forcing Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda to apologize Friday.

The Democratic Party of Japan-led government's sloppy handling may hamper the verification of decisions made in relation to the disaster, observers said.

According to a government survey announced Friday morning, the Nuclear Emergency Response Headquarters and the emergency disaster countermeasures headquarters, both headed by the prime minister, as well as the team to provide livelihood support to tsunami victims, headed by the state minister for disaster reconstruction and disaster management, failed to prepare not only meeting minutes, but also meeting summaries.

Two of the 10 headquarters and teams prepared only partial meeting summaries, the survey showed.
