大変遅くなりましたが，ご指名質問に答えさせていただきます。私が解説するのは，以下の赤字の文章です。

as many as O，といえばOの部分に数詞が入り，「・・・もの多くの」という表現になるのは習ったと思います（『ジーニアス英和辞典』第3版，大修館書店）。今回の場合，Oの部分がthree yearsなので，「男性が亡くなってから3年もの年月が経っていた」と記事では伝えています。as many as Oは数を強調する際に使われ，3年も男性の遺体に気付かなかったという驚きも赤字には含まれているのではないでしょうか。　（ゼミ生 b.m.）
