The Beach Boysと言えば，60年代にThe Beatlesなどのブリティッシュ・インヴェイジョンに対抗したアメリカのロック・バンドです。特にPet Sounds (1966)はエヴァー・グリーンな名盤です。幻想的なコーラスやサウンド・メイキングは，今でも多くのミュージシャンに影響を与えています。その大名盤のサウンドの中心にいたのが，The Beach Boysの再結成に難色を示すBrian Wilsonです。The Guardianから英語表現を拾います。

引用した段落について考えてみます。最初にit may come down to the size of the chequeです。丁寧に見てみるとcome down toは｢結局〜となる｣という基本的な表現です(『ジーニアス英和辞典』大修館書店)。chequeは米語で言うところのcheckで｢小切手｣を意味します(『リーダーズ英和辞典』研究社)。つまり，｢結局，小切手の額が問題になったのかもしれない｣ということです。
