ここで採り上げる表現はfind one’s feetです。辞書によると，「（幼児が）立って歩けるようになる」という意味があり，そこから「自立出来るようになる，自分の能力を発揮できるようになる」と変化した意味も持つようになりました（『オーレックス英和辞典』旺文社）。今回は，後者の語義が当てはまりますね。ここでは「（ベストを尽くし）何が何でも勝ちにくる」と解釈できるのではないでしょうか。
ちなみに，この表現に似たものでstand on your own two feet「自立する」があります。
