最初にlose his lockです。lockと聞くと「錠」が浮かぶと思います。しかし辞書をみると，「（髪の）ふさ，巻き毛」（同上）とありました》」（『ジーニアス英和辞典』第4版，大修館書店）。lose one's locks で「髪が薄くなる」ということができると思います。
最後にa dead catです。文字通りに捉えると，「死んだネコ」です。しかし，これではしっくり来ないので辞書で確認してみると「きびしい〔あざけるような〕批判」とありました》」（『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第4版，大修館書店）。
