昨年世界に衝撃を与えた人物といえばMichael Jacksonとこの女性ではないでしょうか。そう，Susan Boyleです。イギリスのオーディション番組Britain's Got Talentに出場し，一夜にして有名人となった彼女をテレビやYou Tubeなどでご覧になった方も多いと思います。
その彼女が今回新作のアルバムのためにデュエット相手を募集していると彼女のホームページに書かれていました。

It’s hard to believe that it has been little over a year since Susan Boyle first grabbed the attention of the world.
Susan’s remarkable journey started with a few short steps across the Britain’s Got Talent stage, and this opportunity allowed her to win over the judges and a sceptical audience and, with over 350 million views on YouTube and counting, the rest is history!
Now Susan is looking to repay your incredible support by giving YOU the opportunity afforded to her. Yes, in this incredible new competition, Susan is offering one lucky person the chance to record a duet with her for her next album!

彼女のコメントの最後に"Go on! Do it! Take the plunge!"と書いてあります。plungeを辞書で引くと名詞の欄に「飛び込み；突入；投げ込むこと」とあります。さらにイディオムでtake the plungeは「(いろいろ考えた末)思い切ってやってみる」とありました（『ジーニアス英和辞典』第3版，大修館書店）。
ここでは「挑戦してみて!」といった感じに取れると思います。その前のGo on! Do it!も同じような意味なので，彼女がたくさんの人の応募を期待していることがわかります。
参加資格は18歳以上であることだけで，国籍，性別は問われていません。今月の26日には決まるそうなので，どんな人が選ばれるのか楽しみです。明日はpear-chanです。（ゼミ生　b.m.）
