指の油

インターネットでiPadの記事を追いかけている小山本。これまでBBC, CNN, JAPAN TODAY, TelegraphのiPadに関する記事はチェックしました。その中でTelegraphにiPadのreviewがありました。総合評価はかなり高く，見出しにApple iPad review: the ultimate browsing machineとあるくらいです。しかし，完璧な商品はありません。気になる点が2カ所採り上げらていて，その１つがscreenにつく「指の油」。さてこの「指の油」は英語で何というでしょうか。
It’s not perfect, of course. The fingerprint smudges that accumulate swiftly on the touch screen can be irritating and if you visit websites that use a lot of Flash you’ll be disappointed because the iPad won’t display that content. (That, says Apple, is one of the ways they avoid buzzing fans and hot processors).
答えは，fingerprint smudge(s)です。smadgeは「よごれ, しみ；輪郭のぼやけた形；汚点」という意味（『プログレッシブ英和中辞典』小学館）。案外そのままですね（ただ，以前田邉先生に，fingerprintだけでも「指の油」の意味になると教えていただきました）。
