Two persons died after a small aircraft crashed in a mountainous area of Yamazoe, Nara Prefecture, on Aug. 14, sources said.
The charred bodies were found near the cockpit of the aircraft.
The aircraft, which is believed to be a U.S.-registered single-engine propeller plane, was scheduled to leave Yao Airport in Osaka Prefecture before noon and fly to Fukushima Airport, according to its flight plan.

Lion turns tyre into a chew toy
A group of friends were left traumatised after a lion clung onto the spare tyre at the back of their bakkie at the Natal Lion Park.
The group were driving through the gated lion enclosure in the park last Sunday when the incident occurred.
The Witness has over the last decade reported on numerous incidents of lions jumping on vehicles at the park, which is owned by prominent animal circus owner Brian Boswell.

今回はbakkie (/ˈbaki//ˈbʌki/) を取り上げます。文脈からして乗り物だということは分かるのですが、どのようなものを指しているのでしょうか。
『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第五版，大修館）で調べたところ、「（無蓋集配用の）軽トラック，小型トラック」、「はち，わん，容器」などと書かれておりました。ちなみに小型トラックはpickupとも言うそうです。Oxford Dictionary of English(Second Edition Reserved, Oxford University Press)には、 “a light truck or pickup truck”、 “a small basin or other container”と載っておりました。語源はアフリカの言葉でcontainerを表す “bak”という言葉だそうです。それに接尾辞が加わりbakkieになったようです。(Gomez)

先日も取り上げましたが、バージニア州で起きたデモで突っ込んだ車を運転していたとされる犯人が裁判所に現れるとのことです。

The crash that killed Heather Heyer took place at a Unite the Right rally spurred on by Charlottesville's plan to remove a Confederate statue from a local park.
The rally was attended by neo-Nazis, skinheads and Ku Klux Klan members, and the white nationalists were met with hundreds of counterprotesters, which led to street brawls and violent clashes.
Fields is accused of driving into the counterprotesters.

記事の中で気になった単語は"deceleration" /dìːsèləréɪʃən/ です。『Wisdom英和辞典第三版』(三省堂)には「≪…における≫ 減速」という意味がありました。他の動きとして，韓国のムン大統領が，米韓の同意がない限り，半島内で戦争を行うことは許さないと述べました。(Ume)
N Korea leader 'briefed' on Guam plan but opts to wait
The report on state news agency KCNA said Kim Jong-un "examined the plan for a long time" and discussed it with senior military officials.
The commander of North Korea's strategic force was now merely waiting for orders "after rounding off the preparations for the enveloping fire at Guam".
But, crucially, the report also said that Mr Kim would watch the US before making any decision, signalling an apparent deceleration in the provocative rhetoric.
