　少し前の記事になってしまいますが、バンクシーのものと思われる絵がまた、見つかりました。

A spitting image of Banksy's famous painting, “Girl with Balloon,” has surfaced here, only days after graffiti in Tokyo ignited global speculation it was by the mysterious street artist.

　thumb one’s noseを取り上げます。
　『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第四版、大修館書店）には「〈人〉に向かって親指を鼻先につけ他の指を左右に振ってみせる、〈人・物〉をばかにする」とありました。LDOCEでは“to show that you do not respect rules, laws etc or you do not care what someone thinks of you”と定義されています。同表現としてはmake a long nose atやbite one’s thumb atが挙げられます。
　確かに映画の人を馬鹿にするシーンで、このようなしぐさを見かけたことがあります。比喩的な表現ではないかと思いました。ちなみに、bite one’s thumb atも似たような語源で、人を馬鹿にするときに、親指を噛んでみせることからできた表現だそうです。(rain)
