nudge /nʌdʒ/ を取り上げます。文脈から「動かす」であると推測しました。
『ジーニアス英和辞典』(第五版、大修館書店)では「(注意を引くために)(人)をひじで軽くつつく、(人・物)をそっと(一定の方向に)押す、(...の中を)ひじで押して進む、やさしく説得する、(一定のレベル・数値など)に近づく」とあります。また、LDOCEでは “to push someone gently, usually with your elbow, in order to get their attention” “to move something or someone a short distance by gently pushing” “to move forward slowly by pushing gently” “to gently persuade or encourage someone to take a particular decision or action” “to almost reach a particular level or amount” と定義されています。Oxford Living Dictionariesで確認すると、Late 17th century (as a verb): of unknown origin; compare with Norwegian dialect nugga, nyggja‘to push, rub’.と語源が載っていました。
こうしたニュースを見ると、時代は何でもデジタルだなと感じます。もちろん、便利になるのは良いことです。しかし、その背後にある危険性、中毒性には十分気をつけなければいけません。(seventh-dan)
