sod 復習

今回取り上げる語は、sod /sάd/ です。記事を読んでいて、十分な理解ができなかったため確認していきます。
まず意味をCambridge Dictionaryでみると、“used to say rudely that something is not important”とあります。また、同書にsad it\thatで“spoken not polite”“used to rudely express anger or annoyance at something or someone”と載っていました。次に語源をONLINE ETYMOLOGY DICTIONARY でみると、“term of abuse, 1818, short for sodomite (also see sodomy). British colloquial sod-all "nothing" is attested from 1958.”とあります。以上のことから、sodはsod itで「ちくしょう、くそ」などの怒りを表す表現で、口語的なものであることがわかりました。(OkaUchi)
