A Japanese tabloid has apologized after it caused outcry by ranking universitieson how easily men can acquire the female students and coerce them into having sex, BBC reports.

今回はrigging /rɪ́ɡɪŋ/ です。復習程度の単語ですが、初見だったので取り上げます。

『ジーニアス英和辞典』第４版（大修館）には「不正工作」とあり、動詞rigで「＜価格など＞を人為的[不正]に操作する；＜選挙など＞に不正[八百長]をする」とありました。Cambridge Dictionaryは “the act of arranging dishonestly for the result of something, for example an election, to be changed” と定義しています。

つまり、記事では「不正入試」と解釈でき、日本の医学部の女性差別の問題も取り上げられていました。このニュースは海外の多くのメディアで報道されており、日本の男女格差の実態に「時代遅れ」という声が多く上がっています。(amphibian)
