　warlord /wɔ́rlɔ̀rd/ を取り上げます。『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第四版、大修館書店）には「（特に一地方の）軍事的指揮者、将軍」とありました。LDOCDには“the leader of an unofficial military group fighting against a government, king, or different group”とありました。
lordは「統治者、首長、（家・土地などの）所有者」や「（業界などの）有力者、大立て社、大家、大御所」という意味があるので、warと合わさってこのような意味になるのだと思います。(rain)
