NHK to cut TV viewing fees by 4.5%

NHK’s board approved the public broadcaster’s plan on Tuesday to cut its television viewing fees by 4.5 percent by fiscal 2020.

The fee cut plan was designed to meet a government-set condition for starting the online simulcast of TV programs.

NHK’s Board of Governors voted to revise the broadcaster’s fiscal 2018-2020 business plan to include the viewing fee cuts in it.

simulcast /sάɪm(ə)lk`æst/ を取り上げます。simulで始まっていることから、同時にという意味が含まれていると考えられます。『ライトハウス英和辞典』（第5版　研究社）で調べると「（普通は受身で）（ラジオとテレビで）同時に（…）を放送する」「同時放送（番組）」とありました。

　LDOCEには “to broadcast something at the same time on two or more media such as television, radio, or Internet, or at the same time as it is happening” と定義されています。テレビやラジオの他にもインターネットなども含まれることがわかりました。

　来年10月からの消費税増税時には受信料を据え置き、2020年10月から2.5%の値下げを行うことで、合計4.5%の値下げを行うとのことです。（aqua）
