'SpongeBob' creator Stephen Hillenburg dies at 57

Stephen Hillenburg, who used his dual loves of drawing and marine biology to spawn the absurd undersea world of "SpongeBob SquarePants," has died, Nickelodeon announced Tuesday.

Hillenburg died Monday of Lou Gehrig's disease, also known as ALS, the cable network said in a statement. He was 57.

He had announced he had the disease in March 2017. His death comes just weeks after the passing of another cartoon hero in Marvel creator Stan Lee.

　anthropomorphic /ænθɹɒpəˈmɔɹfɪk/ を取り上げます。文脈から、人間のようなという意味になるのだろうと思いました。『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第4版　大修館書店）には「1（神、自然の）擬人観（論）の；神人同形説の　2人間に似た（形をした）」とありました。

　LDOCEにはanthropomorphismで “the belief that animals or objects have the same feelings and qualities as humans” や “the belief that God can appear in a human or animal form” と定義されています。形だけではなく、人間と同じような感情を持っていると考えることも含まれます。

　anthropoは「人間の、人間に関する」という意味を表す連結要素で、他にも同じ語頭の単語を上記の英和辞典で探してみると、anthropometry /`ænθrəpάmətri/ 「人体測定（学）」、anthropocentric /`ænθrəpəséntrɪk/ 「（正式）人間中心の」などがありました。人間に関連する語としてそれぞれ押さえておきたいです。（aqua）
