今回取り上げる表現は、 “turmoil” /tə́ːrmɔɪl/ です。
文脈から、「騒動」という意味だと判断しましたが、一体どういう意味なのでしょうか。
『ウィズダム英和辞典』で調べたところ、「混乱、騒動、騒ぎ」と載っていました。
また、『オックスフォード英英辞典』には、 “a state of great anxiety and confusion” とあり、同意語として “confusion” /kənfjúːʒən/ が載っていました。
