octagonal 復習

Visitors look at an exquisite octagonal box, decorated with shellfish inlay, amber and other materials that depict flowers and birds on the opening day of the Exhibition of Shoso-in Treasures, which is showcasing the refined culture of the Nara period (710-784), at the Nara National Museum in Nara on Saturday. The 70th annual exhibition features 56 items, including 10 items making their first-ever appearance, from among the about 9,000 items of the collection of the Shoso-in repository in Nara. The exhibition will run until Nov. 12.

気になったのは文頭のoctagonal /ɑktˈægənl/ です。以前他の記事でpentagon「五角形」をインプットしていたので、写真から「八角形の」と予測しました。『ジーニアス英和辞典』で調べると「八角形の」とあります。

LDOCEで名詞形のoctagonは“a flat shape with eight sides and eight angles”と定義されていました。(Kiwi girl)
