気になったのはstomp /stɒmp/ です。文脈から「踏む」だと推測しました。
『ジーニアス英和辞典』(第五版、大修館書店)では「...を踏みつける、虐待する、(力を込めて)踏み鳴らす、(怒って)足を踏み鳴らす」とあります。また、LDOCEでは “to walk with heavy steps or to put your foot down very hard, especially because you are angry” と定義されています。Oxford Living DictionariesをみるとEarly 19th century (originally US dialect): variant of the verb stamp.と由来の解説がありました。
卓球=愛ちゃんという式が成り立つ程、競技への貢献度が大きかった福原選手です。その人気は日本だけではなく、世界へと広がっていきました。今回、ラケットを置く理由として若手の台頭を挙げています。あの「サー!」がもう聞けないと思うと寂しいものです。(seventh-dan)
