forge ahead

今回紹介するのは forge aheadです。

つい先日、 私が取っているIntroductory Seminarの 先生から生徒への連絡事項の中に“As we'll need to forge ahead with Darwin, please do complete the reading that was assigned for 9 October as well as that for 11 October for tomorrow's class.” とあり、このforge aheadという使われ方が気になったので調べることにしました。以下で確認していきます。

Collins English Dictionaryでは、“If you forge ahead with something, you continue with it and make a lot of progress with it.” とありました。

念のためCambridge Dictionaryを引くと、“to make an effort to achieve something in a short time.”と定義されております。

以上から、「（遅れ）を取り戻す、元のペースに戻る」という訳が当てはまるのではないかと思われます。catch up onもしくはcatch up withなどがforge aheadの類語に相当するのではないでしょうか。（bro-taro-world @ Calgary）
