weigh upを取りあげます。重さのことを言っているのかと思いましたが、どのような意味なのでしょうか。『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第四版、大修館書店）には「…を比較考量する、…をよく考える、…を評価する、…の重さをはかる」とありました。LDOCEにはto consider something carefully so that you can make a decision about itやto watch someone and listen to them carefully so that you can form an opinion about what they are likeと定義されています。
weighだけでも「〈人が〉〈物・人〉をよく考える」や「…を〔…と/…の点で〕比較考察する」といった意味になるようです。(rain)
