After 48 days on run, Osaka escapee held in Yamaguchi

A man was served with an additional arrest warrant for alleged escape from police custody on Sunday, a day after he was detained in western Japan following 48 days on the run.

The 30-year-old man, Junya Hida, was arrested on suspicion of shoplifting in Yamaguchi Prefecture on Saturday after escaping from a police station in Tondabayashi in Osaka Prefecture, about 360 kilometers away, in August.

　indictを取り上げます。/ɪndάɪt/ と発音され、注意したい単語の一つかと思われます。『ライトハウス英和辞典』（第5版　研究社）で調べると「（法律）（主に米）（人）を起訴する；告発する」とありました。例には “He was indicted for (on a charge of) bribery.” 「彼は収賄（贈賄）の罪で起訴された。」と説明されています。

　Merriam-Websterには “to charge with a fault or offense” や “to charge with a crime by the finding or presentment of a jury (such as a grand jury) in due form of law” と定義されています。起訴するという意味の他に、人を非難するという意味でも用いられることが確認できました。

　逮捕時の姿と逃走中の公開写真を比べると、髪型や日焼けの具合などで別人に見えることに驚いてしまいました。樋田容疑者は黙秘を続けており、警察は逃走経路の特定を進めているとのことです。（aqua）
