今回取り上げるのは、abduct /æbdˈʌkt/ です。意味が分からなかったため、調べてみました。
まず、LDOCEで引いてみると、“to take someone away by force” とあり、『ウィズダム英和辞典』には、「誘拐[拉致]する、かどわかす」と載っていました。
続いて、ODEで語源を調べてみると、“early 17th cent. : from Latin abruct- ‘led away’, from the verb abducare, from ab- ‘away, from’ + ducare ‘to lead’.” と定義されていました。（Otoyo）
