今回調べたのは、be swamped withです。見たことはあったのですが、どうしても意味が思い出せなかったため調べてみました。
まず、LDOCEで調べてみると、“to suddenly give someone a lot of work, problems etc to deal with” とあり、『ウィズダム英和辞典』には、「〈人が〉《仕事などに》追い回される」と載っていました。他にもODEを引いてみると、“overwhelm with an excessive amount of something” とあり、いっぱいいっぱいな様子であることがうかがえました。
一度で覚えられない単語は、出来るだけイメージ化して覚えていこうと思います。（Otoyo）
