『ジーニアス英和辞典』(第五版、大修館書店)では “see(look at, view) something through rose-colored-glasses” で「(物事・世界・人生など)を楽観的に見すぎる」とあります。 “rose-colored” で「有望な、楽観的な、陽気な」とも載っています。また、LDOCEには “if you see or view something through rose-coloured glasses, you think it is better than it really is” と説明があります。表現の由来は、直訳である「バラ色の眼鏡」を通してものを見ると、全てがバラ色に見えるという所から来ています。(英辞郎on the Web)
