hands-on 復習

　成田空港の北にある神崎町では海外からの観光客を集める取り組みが行われているようです。

Since olden times, Kozaki, located just north of Narita in Chiba Prefecture, has thrived as the home of many sake and soy sauce producers.

Now, town officials are joining local efforts to entice foreign travelers to visit rather than simply passing through after landing at Narita Airport.

Kozaki started hosting a hands-on lecture to make “miso dama” (miso ball) for foreigners on bus tours at the Hakko no Sato Kozaki roadside station in April this year. The rest area opened in 2015.

　今回調べたのはhands-onです。handとあったので「手取り足取り」といった意味かと思いました。

　手持ちの辞書には記載がなかったためインターネットで調べてみたところ、LDOCEにはdoing something yourself rather than just talking about it or telling other people to do itと定義されていました。またOEDにはInvolving or offering active participation rather than theoryとありました。

　Weblioなどには「実地の」といった意味が記載されていましたが、英英辞典で見てみると「とにかくやってみる」といったニュアンスがあるように感じました。

ちなみにhands offは「無干渉の」と反対の意味であると「ジーニアス英和辞典」(第四版,大修館書店)に記載されていました。
