scaremonger 復習

　今回取り上げる語は、scaremonger /ˈskɛːmʌŋɡə/ です。直訳すれば「恐ろしいことを広く伝える人」となります。以下で意味等を確認していきます。
　まず意味を Cambridge Dictionary でみると、“a person who spreads stories that cause public fear” とあります。今回の記事にある scaremongering だと “the practice of deliberately making people worried or nervous, especially in order to get a political or other advantage” と定義されていました。
　次に語源を ONLINE ETYMOLOGY DICTIONARY でみると、“also scaremonger, 1888, from scare (n.) + monger (n.).” とあります。
　以上のことから、scaremonger は「(デマなどを流して)世間を騒がせる人」という意味があるとわかりました。(OkaUchi)
